Too High Cca Battery
Too low cca means that my car might not be able to start when the weather is very cold.
Too high cca battery. Add increased starter current draw if the engine is hot plus the late model bikes phase up while cranking and that needs good high cranking rpm. Other than that i have also learned that if i live in a tropical country i need not be concerned with car battery cca. If your battery replacement has a lower cca rating than the oe then expect reduced performance. Just load test the battery with a carbon pile.
Cold cranking amps cca cca is a rating used in the battery industry to define a battery s ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. Low cca is what can be hard on a starter. The battery does not push the cca cold cranking amperage but merely has it available to the starter to draw from the battery as the starter. Too high cold cranking amps may even be bad for my battery.
Load it to 175 amps and start your stop watch. A battery with a high starting power must be able to give you enough confidence in time. There is no such thing as too many cold cranking amps. A battery with 500 cca or more should have no problem starting an atv engine even if the temperature drops below zero.
Or you can get high cca by making the battery with really cheap thin lead plates and lots of cheap and strong electrolyte. This allows very high amperage output allowing your battery to power your accessories longer and deeper than a traditional battery but at the same time deeply discharging it. The rating refers to the number of amps a 12 volt battery can deliver at 0 f for 30 seconds while maintaining. An agm battery with its low internal resistance may stump car guys because sometimes it doesn t work like a traditional flooded lead acid battery.
If your trying to measure what s left of your battery in life forget the cca rating. Which will give the same result when the battery is brand new but a very short battery life because the combination of thin plates and strong acid will cause the battery to fail very quickly. The only downside i can think of is packing too many plates in the same size could make the battery less tolerant to vibrations and normal flaking with age with ordinary lead acid type batteries. Generally speaking it is easier to start an engine in a warm environment than in a cold one.
